Colorado's Convincing Victory: Buffs Rout Canes in NABC Showcase

The Colorado Buffaloes secured their second-ranked win over the Miami Hurricanes in the NABC Showcase at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York this past Sunday.  The Buffs destroyed the Hurricanes 90-63 in a game where Tristan Da Silva solidified himself and was one assist shy of a triple-double.  This game was a massive win for Colorado as they look to get back into the top 25.

The Colorado Buffaloes sit at 7-2, with their two losses coming from an overtime loss against Florida State and a ranked loss against in-state rival Colorado State.  This game versus the Miami Hurricanes was going to test this squad and see if they could pull it back together and prove that their wins were not flukes. They proved they are a legitimate team, beating the Hurricanes by 27 points.

After the game, Da Silva stated, “I told myself before the game I cannot rely on my shot too much.” he continued to say, “I just kept to it.  Starting rebounding, started sharing the ball, (and) taking care of the ball.”

Coach Tad Boyle just got his 26th win over a ranked team as the Colorado Buffaloes head coach.  He holds the highest wins against ranked teams in the Colorado program.

“That’s a helluva win against a really good basketball team,” stated Boyle.

Miami has been looking to have another deep run in March Madness this upcoming year. Coach Jim Larrañga, born in the Bronx and graduated in Queens, had his homecoming spoiled by Colorado.  Larrañga’s record at the University of Miami is 255-149.  Larrañga is a very successful coach that the Buffaloes have taken down.

“I think the way they play offense really tore us apart - moving without the ball, setting really good screens, constant movement and cutting,” Larrañaga stated.

For the Hurricanes, Matthew Clevland led the team in points with 17.  Cleveland shot 5-9 from the field.  Nijel Pack, Guard, shot 3-7 from the field.  Wooga Poplar, another star on Miami who averages 16 points a game, scored 11 but shot 4-11 from the field.  The Buffs defense shut down a majority of Miami’s players as the bench scored 10 points total.

The upcoming game for Colorado is against the University of Northern Colorado.  Their last meeting was last year.  The Buffs took care of the Bears 88-77.  Da Silva scored 26 in that game.  Simpson had 18.  This game will be a test for the Buffaloes to see if they can remain undefeated at home.  They are currently scoring 70+ points at home against opponents.  The Buffaloes make it hard for the teams to win, as 70 or more points in college hoops is hard.  The game is on Friday, December 15th, at the CU Events Center.  Tip-off is at 6 pm, and the game will be on PAC-12 Networks.
